Start the new year on the right foot with ‘Just One Step’ — a 30-day New Year Reset for your wellbeing
Calm’s ‘New Year Reset’ is a 30-day mental health journey to help you recharge, restore, refresh & reconnect. All it takes is Just One Step each day.
Like 90% of the population, you probably have a thousand things on your New Year’s resolutions list — from starting a meditation habit, to picking up a new hobby, and sticking to a daily 10k step count, it can feel overwhelming.
Not only that, but many of us fail in our attempt to stick to resolutions. It’s not our fault. It’s our approach that isn’t serving us. There’s an easier way.
What is the Just One Step: New Year Reset?
Presenting Just One Step: A 30-day mental health reset for the New Year. This challenge is your compass, map, and guide to kicking off the New Year in a way that sets you up for success. Create healthy habits that actually stick (without the overwhelm), and reframe the way you think about taking care of your mental health on a daily basis.
Just One Step breaks down those bigger mental health habits you’ve wanted to start but have been too busy to integrate. Think meditation, mindful movement, boundary setting, or cultivating a gratitude practice combined with easy-to-follow content sessions that you can integrate into your day.
We’ll help you dip your toe into the wellbeing habits that’ll serve you best, while resetting your mental health and helping you stress less, sleep more, and feel better at the same time.

Why is the New Year Reset about Just One Step?
Mental health can feel daunting, difficult, and tricky to integrate into your daily life in the same way that physical health is. But unlike physical health, there isn't a universally agreed-upon "step count" equivalent for mental health.
Think of Just One Step as the mental health version of 10k steps.
So instead of attempting to try all the things to support your mental health, your only job is to commit to taking just one step each day. Because when it comes to keeping your mind healthy, sometimes less is more.
Sometimes, you just need to take one step. Sometimes, you can only manage one step. One step is enough. Because one step combined with one step and one more step makes one giant leap for your mental health and wellbeing.
And the best part is you don’t even need to think about which step to take. We got you.
All you need to do is sign up, download Calm and take the step each day.
How does Just One Step work?
Once you join the challenge, you’ll receive a daily email with details of each day’s step, the science behind why it works, and the secret sauce to making it work for you. There will also be a free calendar and journal you can download to help you keep track of your progress. Sign-up above to receive it.
Each step is grouped into a weekly theme and has been designed with progression in mind. You’ll start small with short activities then work up to slightly longer practices at the end of the week so you can build your stamina and cultivate habits that last.
Week 1: Recharge
In week one, you’ll learn how to recharge your mental batteries with mindful practices and techniques to balance your energy. Think brain breaks, meditation, and movement snacks.
Week 2: Refresh
In week two, begin to refresh your mind and body with daily practices to help you focus, clarify, and energize through movement, grounding techniques, and productivity hacks.
Week 3: Restore
In week three, focus on restoring your wellbeing with tips and techniques to help you optimize sleep and relaxation, like wind down activities and soothing breathing practices.
Week 4: Reconnect
In week four, start to reconnect with yourself, others, and the life you’d like to cultivate for yourself with simple daily activities like journaling, body scans, and gratitude practices.
Week 5: Review
Week five is only two days but they’re important steps. You’ll review the past four weeks with some reflection and get clear on which step will become your go-to mental health reset.
FAQs
Can I join the program after the official launch on January 1, 2025?
For sure! You don’t have to start on January 1 if that doesn’t work for you. You can join in the middle of the month or even the middle of the year! Just One Step is an evergreen program that’ll be there even after New Year. It’s ready for you whenever you’re ready to jump in!
Should I sign-up for my free trial now?
If you’re planning to start on January 1, you’ll want to wait to sign up for your free trial until either New Year’s Eve (12/31/2024) or New Year’s Day (1/1/2025). This means you’ll get the most out of your free trial and have access to Calm during the program. If you’re taking part in the program after January 1, feel free to start your free trial as soon as you’re ready!
How many emails will you send?
As part of the New Year Reset, you’ll receive one email every day in January to reveal the daily step. If you’re already subscribed to Calm’s newsletters, you’ll continue to receive those. Too many emails? That’s okay. You can unsubscribe any time. The last thing we want is to add additional stress to your inbox.
What if I haven’t received my confirmation email?
If you haven’t received an email, please check your junk mail, and/or email support@calm.com to confirm whether you’ve been added to the program.
Can I still take part if I don’t have Calm?
Yes! We’ve designed the program so that anyone can take part, regardless of whether you have access to Calm or not.
Is it all free?
The journal, calendar, and daily emails which contain a ton of valuable content are all free. If you’re eligible, you’ll also have access to a free trial so you can access the complementary in-app content sessions but you don’t need to be subscribed to Calm to take part in the program.
